Scottish actor Iain Robertson, known for his role as Stevie O'Hara in the BBC soap River City, faces serious criminal allegations involving four women over a span of more than 15 years.

The 44-year-old actor has been charged with eight offenses, including rape, assault, and abusive behavior, with the alleged crimes said to have taken place between January 2004 and April 2020. Robertson, who did not attend the latest procedural hearing at the High Court in Glasgow, has denied all charges.

The most serious charge involves the alleged rape of one woman on multiple occasions in 2018 and 2019 at various addresses in Glasgow’s west end and southside. In addition to the rape allegation, Robertson is accused of engaging in coercive and controlling behavior, including:

  • Psychological manipulation

  • Telling others the woman was “mentally unstable”

  • Physical aggression, such as grabbing her by the neck and kicking household items

  • Bombarding her with unwanted calls, messages, and gifts

  • Attempting to frighten her into not contacting the police

Robertson is also accused of abusive and threatening behavior towards three other women. One woman claims he shouted abuse, made derogatory remarks, and poured wine over her. Another alleges he isolated her from friends and family, subjected her to physical violence, and persistently harassed her.

A fourth woman accuses the actor of manipulation, physical aggression, and making inappropriate sexual remarks. The incidents are said to have occurred in Glasgow’s southside and Aberdeenshire.

Robertson, a BAFTA-winning actor known also for roles in Small Faces, Grange Hill, and Rab C Nesbitt, has lodged a special defence of consent in relation to one of the charges. His legal representative, Gary Allan KC, confirmed that a joint minute of agreed evidence has been prepared and that Robertson maintains a not guilty plea.

A trial has been scheduled for June 2026 at the High Court in Glasgow, expected to last six days. Robertson, who resides in Carbeth, Stirlingshire, remains on bail pending trial.
