A civic coalition known as Rivers Women Unite for Sim (RWUS) has issued a strong call for the immediate reinstatement of Siminalayi Fubara as the democratically elected governor of Rivers State.
Gathering in Port Harcourt, the state capital, the women called for "renewed hope, divine strength, and unwavering commitment to the healing and advancement of Rivers State." The meeting served both as a moment of collective prayer and a rallying cry for democratic restoration.
Fubara was suspended from office on March 18, 2025, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. Ibok-Ete Ibas was appointed sole administrator in his place, igniting widespread criticism and concern over the suspension of democratic governance in the state.
The women urged reconciliation among all factions within Rivers, emphasizing the need to rebuild trust, peace, and unity among citizens.
“We know that God will intervene quickly,” said Ibiwari Iyama, one of the group’s leaders. “Even during the brief period that Sir Siminalayi Fubara served as governor, he touched lives and brought visible transformation. That kind of leadership cannot be silenced.”
Echoing the sentiment, Chika Barine emphasized that the gathering was deeply spiritual and purposeful.
“We have come to pray for the full and swift restoration of democratic order in Rivers. We thank God for what He has already begun, and we will not rest until our dearly beloved Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, is restored to his rightful position.”
The women expressed optimism that their advocacy and intercessory prayers are already yielding results. They also called on all indigenes and residents of Rivers State to remain peaceful, hopeful, and united amid the ongoing political crisis.
“This is about the future of our children and the dignity of our democracy,” said another speaker. “Sir Fubara was elected by the people. His mandate must be respected.”
RWUS reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful advocacy, prayerful resistance, and the protection of democratic principles in Rivers State.
