In a sweeping offensive against insecurity, troops of the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation Hadin Kai, have intensified military operations across the country, resulting in the arrest of a suspected Nigerien terrorist in Yobe State and the neutralization of scores of insurgents in other key flashpoints.
According to military sources who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), troops from the 120 Task Force Battalion stationed in Katarko, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, apprehended a Nigerien national suspected to be a terrorist. The individual reportedly attempted to breach a military security perimeter, prompting swift action by the soldiers.
The suspect’s inability to communicate in any Nigerian language raised red flags, triggering deeper investigations into possible transnational terrorist networks operating across Nigeria’s northern borders.
In a parallel operation, troops of the 202 Battalion in Bama, Borno State, recorded a significant win in psychological warfare as two family members of insurgents a woman and a child voluntarily surrendered to the Nigerian Army. They reportedly escaped from a terrorist stronghold in the Churchur axis, indicating mounting pressure on extremist enclaves.
Meanwhile, in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, troops of the 8 Division Garrison engaged armed assailants in a fierce gunfight in Tsamaye and Mai Lalle villages, leading to the neutralization of two terrorists. Soldiers recovered three AK-47 rifles and a motorcycle, dealing a blow to the group's mobility and firepower.
In Kebbi State, troops from the 1 Battalion Rear successfully thwarted an attempt by rustlers to steal livestock in Sauna Village, Argungu LGA. The criminals abandoned 251 cows and fled the scene. The animals were later returned to their rightful owners, a move that strengthens trust in the military’s local protection efforts.
Further south, in Ondo State, vigilant troops of the 323 Artillery Regiment, operating in Igbara-Oke, Ifedore LGA, intercepted two suspected arms dealers. Intelligence suggests they were acting on the orders of an inmate at Kirikiri Correctional Facility in Lagos, who allegedly coordinated the arms deal to support criminal activities in Zamfara State.
In the oil-rich Delta State, troops disrupted an illegal fuel smuggling operation, discovering a tricycle loaded with 200 litres of suspected illegally refined diesel along the Jeddo–Omadino axis in Warri South. In another operation in Okpanam, Oshimili North LGA, troops raided a suspected IPOB/ESN hideout, arresting seven individuals and recovering a motorcycle, phones, and various logistical supplies.
The military source reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to national security, stressing that operations would remain aggressive and intelligence-driven to dismantle terror cells, criminal syndicates, and armed separatist groups.
“The tempo of operations will remain high. The Nigerian Army is committed to internal security and the protection of all Nigerians,” the source stated.
The success of these coordinated operations reflects the evolving strength of Nigeria’s counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency strategies. From Yobe to Delta, the Nigerian Army is executing a multi-front crackdown on insecurity, disrupting terrorist networks, criminal cartels, and illegal economic activities.
As investigations into the arrested foreign suspect unfold, questions remain about the depth of transnational terrorist ties, and whether regional cooperation may be required to halt foreign infiltration into Nigeria’s conflict zones. For now, the message is clear: Nigeria’s armed forces are intensifying the fight against all forms of insecurity and winning battles on multiple fronts.
