Premier League champions Liverpool FC have pledged to pay the full remainder of Diogo Jota’s contract to his family following the tragic death of the Portuguese forward at the age of 28.

Jota and his brother Andre lost their lives in the early hours of Thursday, July 3, 2025, after a fatal car accident in Zamora, Spain.

The talented striker, who signed a five-year contract extension in 2022, was earning £140,000 per week, equivalent to approximately £7.2 million per year. With two years left on his deal, Liverpool will pay his family nearly £14.5 million the full amount he was due through June 2027.

This compassionate gesture reflects Liverpool’s deep commitment to standing by the family of one of their most beloved players during this heart-wrenching time.

Diogo Jota, a father of three, passed away just two weeks after marrying his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso. Since joining Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, he made 182 appearances, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists.

Jota played a crucial role in Liverpool’s recent successes, including:

  • Premier League title (last season)

  • FA Cup victory

  • Two League Cup wins

His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the football world, with tributes pouring in from fans, teammates, and rivals alike.
