A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Olukeye Adedayo Olalekan to 76 years imprisonment for a range of cyber-related crimes, including fraud, money laundering, sextortion, and distribution of child pornography.

The verdict was delivered by Justice Alexander Owoeye on Thursday, June 19, 2025, following a trial that uncovered disturbing acts involving underage victims and international cybercrime networks. Olalekan, who operated under aliases such as hrm87, charlotte708, and harlilott_716, was found guilty on 18 counts under Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act of 2015.

Shocking Crimes with Global Ramifications

The case gained international attention when Canadian authorities began investigating the tragic death of 14-year-old Robin Janjus. Forensic analysis of the boy’s phone pointed to online interactions with Olalekan, who had posed as a woman from North Carolina on social media platforms like Snapchat and Instagram to deceive and exploit victims.

Prosecutors revealed that Olalekan created a group titled “Expose Janjua Robin Nudes” on Instagram, where he distributed explicit images of minors. He also extorted victims by threatening to release sensitive images and solicited funds via cryptocurrency and gift cards.

Conviction and Sentencing

Despite pleading not guilty in 2024, the defendant was found guilty after a detailed trial that began on June 5, 2024. The prosecution, led by Bilikisu Buhari of the EFCC, presented two witnesses: Saidu Yakubu of the EFCC and Wahid Hamidi, a police sergeant from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The court sentenced Olalekan to a cumulative 76 years in prison, with all sentences to run concurrently.

This landmark judgment marks a significant victory in the fight against cyber-enabled child exploitation and reinforces the global collaboration between Nigeria and international partners in prosecuting such heinous crimes.
