The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Moses Thomas Sule, alongside 14 former lawmakers, for alleged money laundering and abuse of procurement procedures involving official vehicles worth N2.5 billion.

The arrests follow petitions from concerned citizens accusing the former legislators who served just six months in office of unlawfully taking away luxury vehicles procured by the state government, which were meant to be returned after their tenure.

According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, investigations revealed:

  • The vehicles were purchased in their official capacities during their brief term.

  • Upon leaving office, the lawmakers refused to return the cars.

  • The state government was then forced to purchase another fleet worth ₦2 billion for the current assembly.

Oyewale confirmed that efforts to retrieve the vehicles were unsuccessful and that charges will be filed soon against the ex-speaker and the indicted lawmakers.

Their political status has also been under scrutiny since November 2023, when the Court of Appeal nullified their elections, ruling that the PDP lacked the legal structure to sponsor candidates in Plateau State for the 2023 polls.
